Handheld Use by Person with SCI

The control module is supported in the palm of the left hand with a strap and the thumb of the right hand is used to direct the cursor and depress the mouse buttons.

Scroll down for videos of the Mouth Mouse being used during participant testing.

Performance of the Mouth Mouse is being evaluated using a multidirectional tapping task as outlined in ISO-9241.  Throughput (TP) is a measure of the effectiveness of a computer input device.
The greater the TP (bits/s) the more effective the input device. The average TP for 19 able-bodied participants using the Mouth Mouse is 1.05 (SD=0.17) bits/s.
Average Throughput = 1.34 bits/s
Average Throughput = 1.11 bits/s.
This video is a good representation of our "average" able-bodied participant
Average Throughput = 1.25 bits/s

Tongue control by person with SCI

Average Throughput = 0.91 bits/s (SD = 0.17)
Average Throughput = 0.87 bits/s (SD = 0.17)
